Search by Ailment Information
Holistic Community is committed to making complementary and alternative medicine more accessible, and this was the inspiration for our search by ailment feature.
Such a large number of different therapies now exist it can be difficult to know where to turn for help. We aim to solve this problem by allowing our users to search our directory in relation to their individual health issue.
By providing you with a list of suggested therapists in your area, we can help increase the number treatment options available to you. We also provide information on the vast majority of therapy types that are listed, helping you to decide which one to pursue.
Whilst Holistic Community has conducted a considerable amount of research into which therapies can help which of the conditions listed, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of this information.
Practitioners that appear in the results of a search by ailment do so because our research shows that one or more of the therapies that they practice may be able to help with the ailment selected. Practitioners that appear in the list have not themselves stated that they can help with the chosen condition.
There are a number of things to bear in mind when using this feature:
- Different practitioners often specialise in treating different conditions. Whilst one practitioner may be able to help with a certain ailment, another practitioner of the same therapy may not.
- Practitioners may have trained in different styles of the therapy. Some of our categories of therapy encompass a number of different variations. Whilst one variation may be able to help with a certain ailment, another may not.
- Some of the categories of ailment are quite broad and cover a range of individual issues. Whilst a type of therapy may help some issues within a category it may not be able to help with the one you are experiencing.
- A particular therapy may only be able to help an ailment if it has roots in a certain area. If the root of the problem lies elsewhere then a different therapy may be more appropriate.
- Some people respond better to certain types of therapy than others.
It is important to realise that the presenting problem is not necessarily what will end up being treated. Health conditions are often a result of deeper issues, and will improve after the deeper issues are attended to. It is, however, often the presenting problem that causes someone to seek treatment in the first place, and these can help to identify and attend to the deeper issue.
Before committing to a course of treatment you should satisfy yourself as to the suitability of the type of therapy and the quality of the individual practitioner. More information can be found in our Guidance on Choosing a Therapist.
